Brigid
Yesterday, I noticed that Brigid was not acting right. Some times that is hard to describe with a cat - I often say this kitty or that is out of sorts, but this was more. She did not seem to get worse during the day so I decided to hang tight on the dreaded vet call. Unfortunately, I knew in the middle of the night that she was quite sick. Eric talked me out of taking her immediately as there are not a huge number of options at 3 am. I was able to get an appointment at 8:30 this morning at a hospital right by our house. After doing some testing, the vet found that Brigid is suffering from kidney failure and a urinary tract infection. Now Murphy, our 21-year-old kitty superstar, has had kidney failure for about 6 years and lived fantastically in that time. With the UTI, the vet is unable to tell how serious the kidney failure is. She has been there all day though, and I just got a call that she was doing better with IV fluids and antibiotics. I just feel sad though and guilty that she has been sick and we have ridiculously busy.
The smell of clean
On Wednesday, Elliott and his crew finished up the windows including installing all the hardware and screens. And then they cleaned. It is the first time I have smelled clean in the house since October, and I loved it. It did not last long though - there is still a ton of dirt in the house! By the way, the stuff from the storage room was not as dusty as I would have expected. That was a pleasant discovery. Or my standards have forever been altered by the gut job and its levels of dust.
Guest bathroom supplies
Pictures from moving day
After having all of our stuff in storage for 4 months, moving day was a bit like Christmas just to see it all again.
We love The Moving Connection (or really anyone who does moving who is not me!).
Basement bedroom filled with boxes from the old basement storage rooms
From the kitchen looking into the breakfast nook
From the dining room into the kitchen. Since there are no cabinets yet, I have not any unpacking. It is strange to have moved days ago with no unpacking on my part. For Eric's part, he has unpacked the supplies for the popcorn trolley. At least, I know where his priorities are. Cabinets have been ordered.
This is what happens when you start packing too late. You pack up a box and realize instantly that you have no idea what is in it.

I am running on empty
And there is no where to fill up. I don't know what Eric and I were thinking to start remodeling between a big project at work and me starting school again.
We spent this weekend getting ready for the movers. That mean painting the floor in the kitchen/living room/dining room and the master suite. Flooring is clearly going to be a priority as soon as we can get the money together. Then we had to clean and clean some more. I can't tell you how dirty the basement was. YIKES! I did move a bit of stuff from storage to the house. Just things that we moved before that were not packed well. It feels so great to have some of our stuff back in our house!
We still need to work on the trench in the back (from electrical work) so the movers can safely get to the back door. Much easier to bring basement stuff directly in the back door over going down the stairs. The trench is still there because sadly we have not finished the telephone and cable burial (read first part of post again - we are busy!).
Template was done for the guest bathroom counter today. Here is a picture of it:
Yes, those are fossils in it. It is really cool.

Move scheduled - for the stuff
I scheduled the move today to get our stuff from storage back into the house for next Wednesday. No, we are not ready to move back in (because there is no potty!). I have quite a bit of cleaning to do this weekend in preparation, but this way we don't have to pay for another month of storage. Also I can get started on the unpacking. We are coming along!

Bye, bye ugly crayon door

Busy day at the Marquardt house
First, two years ago today, we bought our house. Wow - what an adventure it has been! We did have a lot of vision when we bought the house, but we did not have as much vision as the house we have gotten, and we feel very blessed.
The doors were delivered today including the new front door. Yes, you heard right, we will be getting rid of the Crayola crayon door. It will not be missed!
The guest bath tile and cabinetry was also delivered along with the waterproofing for in the shower. This is a product recommended by Mike "Gut It" Holmes. See, Eric, all that HGTV watching has come in handy!
Finally, we are getting the new water heater today. One step closer to a working house!

We have the most beautiful house!
Which is quite a change from when we bought it! By the way, we closed two years ago on February 11. I can't believe that!
I see it has been awhile since I have posted (Sorry Mom!). Really school is more than I anticipated, and I am having trouble keeping up with everything. I will have to learn to manage my time better somehow.
We have been painting this weekend. I had a little freak attack in the Home Depot on Friday night - date night at Home Depot :) - about painting another house and about being at Home Depot on a Friday night. I have done a lot of painting in the last 4 years (Eric's farmhouse, our house when we moved in and now our house post gut).
We got a paint sprayer, and I think it is perhaps greater than sliced bread. Eric primed the front half yesterday and finished this morning. He is currently finishing up the first coat of paint everywhere. Yesterday I did homework (YIKES), and today I painted the guest bathroom. We are actually doing that bathroom now so it could be painted a specific color. Everywhere else we are using the same color for walls and ceiling.
We had a hand texture done called crow's feet or panda paw (see picture at bottom left). This was the texture in the farmhouse. Anyway, it looks fantastic especially with paint. I will take pictures this week when I have some light. All the windows are masked right now for painting so the light is strange.
I am at work right now, and the screensaver on my computer just came up. It is a slideshow of all my pictures. For some reason, it always is starting with pictures from our house before we moved in. This totally cracks me up. We had so much vision!
